The road to Ponto is a bumpy well travelled one. You need to be on the lookout for wild animals, live stock and people. Allowing plenty of time is important as travelling lazily is advised.
The roads from the Kosi Bay border are all through sand dunes, as such a 4 x4 vehicle is recomended. Border transfers are available from most holiday resorts. A border transfer may be simpler when considering all the documents needed to bring your vehicle over the border. Once in Ponto do Oura, the restaurants, markets and shops are all within a easy walking distance.
Major South African Towns:
Durban is approx 370km
Richards Bay is approx 300km
Sodwana Bay is approx 80km
Johannesburg is approx 900km
Maputo is 117km to the North, the road conditions are poor and deteriorate even more during the rain season so a 4×4 is essential. Unfortunately there are no signs along the way and its important to stay on the road as the area has not yet been completely cleared of land mines. If possible find a local to show you the way.
